Writing Goals
What is a writing goal?
Section titled “What is a writing goal?”A writing goal is a word count target with a deadline. You set how many words you want to write and when you want to finish, and Wonderthrough calculates the daily pace you need to stay on track.
How do I set a writing goal?
Section titled “How do I set a writing goal?”On the Project Overview page, find the Writing Progress section and click to set your goal. You’ll enter:
- Target word count — how many total words (default: 80,000)
- Target date — your deadline (default: 3 months from today)
- Days off — which days of the week you don’t write (default: Saturday and Sunday)
You can change any of these at any time.
How is my daily target calculated?
Section titled “How is my daily target calculated?”Wonderthrough divides your remaining words by your remaining writing days (excluding your days off). If you’re 20,000 words into an 80,000-word goal with 60 writing days left, your daily target is 1,000 words.
The target adjusts automatically as you write. Good days lower your future daily target; missed days raise it.
How does pace tracking work?
Section titled “How does pace tracking work?”The system tracks your writing activity over the past 7 days — words added, words removed, and whether you were actively writing. Based on this, it determines your pace trend:
- Ahead — you’re writing more than your daily target
- On track — you’re close to your daily target
- Behind — you’re falling short of your daily target
What does the session debrief show about my pace?
Section titled “What does the session debrief show about my pace?”When you return to Wonderthrough after being away, the session debrief card on your Project Overview includes a pace summary: how many words you’ve written, your current pace status, the daily target you need to hit, and your overall progress percentage.
Does the agent change its behavior based on my pace?
Section titled “Does the agent change its behavior based on my pace?”Yes. The agent detects your activity pattern and adjusts its tone:
- Writing on pace — encouragement and forward momentum
- Writing behind pace — gentle nudge, no guilt, practical suggestions to get back on track
- Editing — recognizes you’re revising rather than drafting, and adjusts accordingly
- Worldbuilding — notices you’re building your world rather than writing new prose, and supports that
- Absent — if you haven’t written in a while, the agent eases you back in rather than jumping straight to targets
The agent never scolds. It meets you where you are.
Can I remove my writing goal?
Section titled “Can I remove my writing goal?”Yes. Removing your writing goal removes the pace tracking and daily targets. Your word count history is still visible, but the agent stops referencing pace in its suggestions.
Does the writing goal apply to one book or my whole project?
Section titled “Does the writing goal apply to one book or my whole project?”Each writing goal is set per book. If you have multiple books, each can have its own target and deadline.
