The desktop app is where your manuscript lives on your own drive and the AI can run entirely on your machine. It's in closed beta and isn't a public download yet.

Wonderthrough is in closed beta, and the macOS app goes to beta writers directly rather than as an open download. Ask for access below and we'll be in touch.
In the meantime the web app runs everything except the local options — the same editor, the same world, the same analysis, in a browser.
Why the desktop app
Both versions are the same Wonderthrough. What the desktop app adds is a choice about where your writing goes — and the most private options only work on a machine you control.
Your own AI keys
Add your own OpenAI and Anthropic keys and the calls go straight from your computer to the provider. Your prompts, your writing, and the responses never touch our servers.
A model on your own machine
Point Wonderthrough at a local model server — Ollama by default, LM Studio and custom servers too — and nothing leaves your computer at all.
Your manuscript on your drive
Your project lives in a folder you can see in your own file system. Cloud sync is a per-project switch — turn it off for a project and it stays on this machine.
In the browser, AI calls always pass through our servers on the way to the provider — even with your own keys, since a browser can't safely call providers directly. That's the honest line between the two, and it's laid out in full on what we don't do. Your own keys and a local model are both part of Pro; everything else here works on any plan.
What you'll need
- A Mac with Apple Silicon — an M1 or later. Intel Macs aren't supported.
- An account — it keeps your subscription, credits, and synced projects tied to you across reinstalls and devices. Why an account matters →
- For a local model, a local model server — Ollama, LM Studio, or your own. It runs on your hardware, so it's happiest with room to work. Local model setup →
Windows and Linux aren't available yet. If that's what you write on, say so when you request access — it's how we decide what comes next.
